Duurzaam Verval

Project Duurzaam Verval is a project that explores decay and our interaction with the ground beneath us. It aims to increase awareness of our daily interaction with the pavement by magnifying, accelerating and dramatizing its decay. This is achieved by altering people’s behavior through the use of relief and materials. The materials used in the tiles were inspired by the layers of various materials used in food packaging. The project involved experimenting with sustainable materials in the paving stones through conversations with sustainable packaging designers Simone Lips and Laura Voet. As a result of his experiment, an abrasive tile was developed that is influenced by both the target group and the weather. When used, the layers within the tile gradually fade away, revealing new layers of material underneath. This encourages the audience to walk more slowly and consciously.
