(De)Nature
Nature is something that attracts us, and on sunny days, we often go outside to enjoy it. We find the untouched aspect of nature appealing, but at the same time, we feel the desire to control it. However, in the Netherlands, almost every piece of “nature” has been carefully planned, designed, and maintained. This raises the question of how truly untouched our rolling heaths and green forests really are.
Project (De)Nature is an interactive installation that aims to amplify the impact of human presence in nature. It starts from the premise of human involvement in nature and responds to the desire to use nature as a source of relaxation. However, the installation ultimately disrupts this enhanced nature experience through the presence of passers-by. This project highlights the inevitable disruption that human presence can have on nature and encourages reflection on the relationship between humans and the natural world. The project consists of two audio pieces and an interactive tree trunk programmed with Arduino.
